The National Government, in order to provide a solution to the country’s transportation, continues to bet on Fifth Generation (5G) projects to unite Colombian regions with the world.
The Bicentennial Concessions began to be announced in 2020 and to date there are more than 22 works in different phases to start their bidding. These will cost, according to the tool Aniscope of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), close to $30.4 trillion, but the figure will rise to more than $50 trillion, as announced by the Government.

In the first ‘wave’ of 5G concessions there were 14 projects, but the Government decided to do it through public works the APP del Río Magdalena, after several attempts to award it and without having bidders. Of the remaining 13, which have a capex value (capital investment) of $20.3 trillion, six projects have been awarded and are running: Malla Vial del Valle del Cauca*100029 *: Accesos-Cali-Palmira (2021), IP ALO Sur (2021), Accesos Norte 2 (2022), Magdalena Trunks 1 (2022) and 2 (2022) and Canal del Dique (2022). These awarded road projects add up to more than $7 billion.
The remaining seven projects, which are a set of Private Initiatives (IP) and some Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), are close to completion its structuring process and start its adjudication. Among them, two highway works, a railway project and four airport projects stand out.Regarding the second ‘wave’, there are nine projects, mostly IP, that to date are being structured.
